Jigsaw puzzle

It was halfway through the long, unusually hot summer holidays, and the jigsaw puzzles at jigzone.com were losing their ability to entertain my 3 year old. "Mummy, I want a real jigsaw, not a pretend one".

With the help of a picture from the Sunday supplement, a glue stick and some cardboard cut from a tissue box, we soon had one.

It actually turned out to be quite an attractive object, mainly because of the way the cut-out pieces interacted with the original image. It was pure coincidence that the pieces segmented the red ball so nicely (they were drawn and cut out using the back face, without any reference to what was on the front.)

As a jigsaw, however, it was too difficult to put together because of the lack of interlocking pieces (more like a tangram really).
